Windows 8 Launch is Nearly Here!

Windows 8 is nearly here. Yes! It’s really true!

For those buying a Windows 7 PC today, you can already buy a Windows 8 upgrade for £14.99. But if you wait just 6 weeks, new PCs will begin shipping with Windows 8 pre-installed. Incidentally, that day – October 26th – will also be the day that Microsoft release their own ‘Tablet’ device called ‘Surface’, which will of course feature Windows 8.

In a nutshell, we think Windows 8 is by far the most interesting release that Microsoft have made in a long time. For Microsoft, its long term success – or not – will spell out whether the company will be able to – once again – compete as the operating system of choice on the new breeds of IT hardware.

However, don’t let the enormity of that challenge distract you from the point of an operating system, when it is employed for work purposes. That point – simply put – is ‘usability’. You have to be sure that what you rely on every day is reliable, ‘does what it says on the tin’, and is easy to use. To this end – and for most of our clients – Windows 8 is still a ‘one-to-watch’ rather than a ‘one-to-have’!
