• Why should you secure your scaffold?

Why should I have a scaffold alarm for my site?

Scaffolds are erected on residential, commercial, and industrial construction sites so workers can access upper floors of buildings. Certain safety standards must be met while assembling the planks, beams, and guardrails. Once the equipment is set up properly, it is impractical to disassemble and lock up everything after each work day. A scaffolding alarm system helps prevent theft of expensive equipment when workers are not on site, and also prevents unauthorized persons gaining access to buildings and roofs that would otherwise be inaccessible.

Should I let my insurance company know that I am having scaffolding erected?

Yes, you should always contact your insurer to make them aware. You should include the dates of when it will be erected, how long it will be there for and what area is alarmed.

When scaffolding is up on your building site, your equipment and your client’s possessions can be at risk from vandalism and theft. And if you don’t have a scaffold alarm installed, or the appropriate insurance providers haven’t been notified that scaffolding has been erected, policies can become null and void.

What area on my scaffolding should be alarmed?

As a minimum requirement the NCP 115 code stipulates that the entire first level of scaffolding is fully supervised by detectors, this includes the ends of the scaffolding. However depending on the size, shape and other factors including flat roof, neighbours high walls etc additional detectors maybe required for complete perimeter protection.
