This can help to bypass the latency that’s caused by cloud computation, enabling data to reach data centres faster. It exists on the edge and so it is positioned closer to where computing is required to happen. Therefore, time-sensitive data can be processed in remote locations using limited connectivity in a location that’s centralised. This is going to increase in 2021, especially as the use of Internet of Things devices continues to grow.

Once again, these forms of technology are not new but they are evolving. On the whole, Virtual Reality has been used in the gaming work, giving players the chance to immerse themselves in the environment while Augmented Reality enhances the environment. Essentially, Blockchain is data that can only be added to, which means it cannot be changed or taken away from. As it cannot be changed, it makes it safer. More industries are beginning to adopt Blockchain as they aim to benefit from the increased security and the ability to carry out transactions without the need for a third party to validate transactions.

While 3G and 4G have made it possible to browse the internet on the move by using mobile devices, 5G takes it to a new level. It’s likely that 2021 is going to be the year of adoption, giving people access to more services such as those that use the likes of VR and AR. The technology will not just be used by consumers because it will be used to monitor daily processes such as traffic, security camera, and smart grid control, opening up the world to a whole new range of possibilities.
